India has until 15 July to ease its neighbouring country’s concern that the dam will break the 1960 Indus Water Treat, otherwise it will receive formal notification from Pakistan about its intentions, according to WebIndia123.com.
The situation is similar to the Baglihar dam issue, for which a neutral arbitrator was eventually appointed to help solve the disagreement.
Pakistan has said that the completion of the 22km long tunnel to divert waters from the Kishangaga to the Wuller lake will leave it facing a 27% water deficit.
The country is also concerned that this will affect the US$1.6B Neelum-Jhelum hydro power project, which produces 969MW.
