The company was awarded a contract by Brazilian firm Energ Power to supply two units of 41MW for the San Joan plant under construction in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The plant is to be commissioned in early 2010. Power Machines said that the contract is worth more than Euro7M (US$10.3M).
Separately, the Russian manufacturer also announced the despatch of the first of nine Francis turbines for the Boguchanskaya project, and reports to have manufacture of the first generator underway.
Each runner is 7.86m diameter and weighs 155.6 tonnes, and the first unit is being transported about 6500km by sea before it will be transferred to be taken by river on the final main leg of the journey to site. The nominal capacity of the unit is 333MW, and all nine are to be supplied, installed and commissioned by 2012.
The 3GW plant is being built on the Angara river by a joint venture of Russia’s federal hydropower and aluminium companies, RusHydro (formelrly Hydro OGK) and Rusal. The project began in 1980 but proceeded only slowly until funded ran out but in 2002 the restructuring of the country’s power sector enabled it to be completed.
Power Machines said a year ago that the value of the contract was US$118M. The contract was awarded in 2006 and commissioning work is due to start in 2009.
