The Site C hydroelectric project has brought a fourth generating unit online, marking another step toward full operation. With this unit running, two-thirds of the project’s total generating capacity is now active, enhancing British Columbia’s electricity supply.
“Congratulations to all the workers at Site C for reaching this important milestone in construction,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions. “Another generating unit in operation is another step forward as we work to build a secure supply of clean, affordable, reliable electricity to power British Columbia into the future.”
The project’s first generating unit was activated in October 2024, followed by additional units in December and February. Each unit produces more than 180MW of electricity, which is enough to power approximately 80,000 homes.
With the fourth unit now in service, BC Hydro has started testing and commissioning the fifth. All six generating units are expected to be operational by fall 2025.
Once complete, Site C is projected to generate enough electricity to power nearly 500,000 homes and increase BC Hydro’s total supply by about eight per cent.
