SMEC has announced it is conducting a feasibility study on the Wawa Dam Bulk Water Supply Project in the Philippines.
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), the government agency in charge of water and wastewater services in Metro Manila, has earmarked the Wawa (Marikina) River as a medium-term solution that could augment the Angat Dam in catering to Manila’s ever-increasing water demand. Originally built in 1909, the Wawa Dam has since been abandoned and is now a destination for mountain hikers and tourists.
The study aims to identify the required quality of water and the most appropriate scheme to enable bulk water supply from the Wawa River to Metro Manila’s local water distributors, considering options such as, but not limited to, retrofitting the existing Wawa Dam or constructing a new one.
