The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) awarded a Certificate of Compliance (COC) for the unit, which replaces a 25MW unit as part of a refurbishment and upgrade of the 100MW project. The COC is valid for five years.
This is the second of four units to be completely refurbished and declared compliant since SNAP-Benguet embarked on a refurbishment program at the project in 2010. The program includes construction of a new intake and headrace, modernization of the control system, as well as the turbine upgrades.
Unit 1’s refurbishment was completed in July 2012 while Unit 4 was completed in December 2011. Work on the two remaining units is expected to begin in early 2013 and completed by the end of the year.
