Stantec, a global design and engineering firm, has launched its fifth annual Stantec Equity & Diversity Scholarship to support students from historically underrepresented groups pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering, arts/architecture, and math (STEAM) fields. Since its inception, the program has awarded 160 scholarships, 30 internships, and provided C$800,000 in financial support.

“Our applicants continually inspire us with their resilience, creativity, and passion for making a difference,” said Gord Johnston, Stantec’s president and CEO. “The launch of our fifth Stantec Equity & Diversity Scholarship is a testament to our belief in their potential to shape a more inclusive and innovative future. We are honored to support these talented individuals as they pursue their dreams and contribute to the betterment of our communities and our industry.”

For the 2025-2026 academic year, Stantec will award C$200,000 in scholarships and offer paid internships in 2025. The scholarship is part of Stantec’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, targeting members of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, people with disabilities, veterans, and first-generation college students pursuing a STEAM education. In 2024, the company awarded 46 scholarships globally, including in Canada, the US, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Peru, along with seven internships.

Adriana Ceric, a 2024 intern and scholarship recipient, shared her experience: “As I progressed through my Civil Engineering degree, I discovered a strong interest in transportation, accessibility, public transit, and technology. Witnessing the construction of the light rail in my hometown throughout high school fueled this interest. Progressing through my degree also made me realize the cumulative burden of tuition fees I faced as an engineering student, which made the E&D Scholarship a perfect opportunity for me. The scholarship not only connected me with a placement on the Smart(ER) Mobility team but also alleviated some of my university expenses. I’m grateful for the support and connections I was able to gain from this scholarship program!”

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in a college, university, or post-secondary institution for the 2025-26 academic year. An independent selection committee will evaluate applications based on educational goals, community service, leadership in extracurricular activities, and overall career ambitions. The application deadline is October 14, 2024, with winners and internship candidates to be selected in December 2024. For more information, visit the Stantec Equity & Diversity Scholarship website.
