The 60MW and 220MW plants, as well as a new RCC dam and powerline, were officially opened on Friday (11 Jan). The plants will be and maintained by Statkraft, which owns 20% of THPC.
“The expansion project in Laos is a very good example of how we can exploit large, renewable hydropower resources in combination with sustainable solutions. With this new power plant, Norwegian hydropower expertise contributes to profitable, environmentally friendly and sustainable investments internationally," said President and CEO of Statkraft Christian Rynning-Tønnesen.
The project was being developed to provide power domestically (60MW) but also for export to neighbouring Thailand (220MW).
