As engineers continue to assess the scale of the damage at the Whaley Bridge dam in Derbyshire, UK, the water level in Toddbrook reservoir has so far been reduced to below 55% of holding capacity, with drainage work still ongoing.
The dam and reservoir’s operator Canal and River Trust said work continued all day yesterday to reduce the amount of water in the reservoir, and to continue to stabilise the spillway by placing approximately 525 one tonne bags of aggregate so far, with grout poured around the bags to ensure the maximum contact between the added weight and the face of the dam
To offset additional water coming into the reservoir a weir structure has been constructed at the inlet to divert as much flow as possible around the bypass channel. There has been no flow into the reservoir for the past 24 hours.
Damage at the dam came to light late last week following intense heavy rain in the area.
