The agencies said in a statement that they remained committed to their process started more than a year ago to protect listed salmon in the Federal Columbia River Power System.

They said that their initiatives are producing results, claiming ‘strong survival again in 2006’ for juvenile spring Chinook as they migrate through reservoirs and past dams.

Earlier this week the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed the judgment of a District Court ruling over a 2004 biological opinion for the river basin’s hydropower operations. The agencies said they were still analysing the appeal court ruling.

The four federal agencies are: National Marine Fisheries Service; US Bureau of Reclamation; US Army Corps of Engineers, and, Bonneville Power Administration.
