The Austrian company will supply the electro-mechanical equipment for a new generating unit at the Tierfehd plant. The order was awarded by Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern AG within the framework of the construction of a new pumped-storage power plant, and includes the delivery, installation and commissioning of a four-stage reversible 141MW pump turbine with a head of 1050m, motor-generator as well as all necessary service installations.
The new pumped storage power plant is designed to boost the current output capacity of the existing facility from about 440MkWh by approximately 50% to almost 700MkWh. The overall contract value is US$35.7M.
VA Tech will also rehabilitate the turbines in Ozark powerhouse in Arkansas, US, by order of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The contract for this refurbishment is worth more than US$67.6M.
The company will be responsible for the complete mechanical renovation package for the power house. Work under the contract includes the refurbishment of five 23MW Kaplan-type S-Turbines, including the replacement of the runners and shafts as well as new digital governors and various balance of plant equipment.
The refurbishment is expected to be complete by 2012.
