Voith Hydro has been awarded a contract valued at nearly $50 million by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to modernize the turbines and generators at the Norfork Dam in Baxter County, Arkansas. The work is expected to begin soon and projected to last through 2028.

Originally completed in 1944, the Norfork Dam powerhouse features two turbine/generator units each with 31.3MW of generating capacity that were originally manufactured in the 1940’s in York, Pennsylvania. Upon completion, each unit could generate up to 46.5MW.

“Voith Hydro’s U.S.-based workforce is excited to give new life to an iconic dam in the heart of the Ozarks,” said Stanley Kocon, President and CEO of Voith Hydro Inc. “We thank the Army Corps of Engineers for the contract award, which recognizes Voith Hydro’s unparalleled technology and know- how in both hydropower modernization and environmental performance. Voith Hydro is proud to design and manufacture this equipment right here in the US – equipment that will provide clean and renewable electricity for the people and businesses across Arkansas and the Ozarks region.”
