To be held from 29-31 May, the Congress will address three themes:
* Water and energy optimisation – highlighting hydro power’s role in maximising the benefits and services from multi-purpose infrastructure, with emphasis on both existing schemes and new developments.
* Renewables innovation – reviewing the latest developments in terms of technologies, prototypes, applications and linkages throughout the renewables portfolio, including the latest developments in hydro power technology.
* Sustainability and certification – evaluating recent policy and directives (affecting both developed and less developed countries), discussing corporate responsibility and assessing linkages with finance, regulation, business and industry. Reviewing the value of current and future certification systems for hydro power.
There will also be pre-Congress activities including a technical networking tour where delegates will visit a major hydro development, cruise on its reservoir, visit an ancient amphitheatre, and experience some of Turkey’s rich culture. There will also be a training course where delegates will have an opportunity to learn about the purpose and application of the new IHA Sustainability Assessment Protocol (SAP). The course will be conducted by key developers of the SAP, and delegates will gain an insight into its use in the implementation of new projects and operation of existing schemes.
Study tours and an exhibition have also been organised as part of the Congress.
